How to protect your Inflatable Boat Bottom?
Easy to Clean:
Whether In the water for a day or all season, protect your Inflatable bottom against attachment of marine growth, dirt, diesel, exhaust soot.
Speed Clean with Hypexine is a boat cleaner and restorer for new as well as abused inflatable boats. It quickly and easily removes stubborn dirt, exhaust soot, grime, stains, chalking and scuffs that other cleaners can’t touch. Use dedicated Aurora system matched products to keep your inflatable boats, zodiac boats, walker bay, RIB’s or rigid inflatable boats and inflatable dingies looking their best and reducing maintenance. Look at this poor rigid inflatable boat that’s been neglected for over 3 years. It’s dirty, gummy and stained with diesel. Inflatable Bottom Spray got the algae off In no time. Next, Speed Clean boat cleaner got the Yuck off. Quickly and easily. Poly Guard inflatable boat protective coating made the tubes shine better than new. Repelin clear polymer fouling release coating provides invisible protection against marine fouling. It’s a green alternative to antifouling paint.
Keeping your new RIB or Inflatable Boat clean and protected against environmental damage can easily double the useful life of your boat, keep it looking like the day you bought it, increase your pride of ownership and bring a much higher return when it comes time to trade up or sell.
Your boat will be expected to live and survive in the Marine Environment; the toughest environment on the planet. It will be under constant attack from dirt, grime, UV, infrared, suntan lotion, marine growth, bacteria, bird and spider droppings, scuffs, stains, ozone and more. A simple and regular maintenance regime can easily defeat these ravages, but you need the right specialty products and procedure to do the job. Failure to keep your boat clean and protected will result in it looking old and tired before its time, may void your warranty and is sure to bring additional problems that can be costly to repair.
Using the right products to care for your boat is important. Household, automotive and industrial products can often cause more harm than good and should not be used. Aurora Boat Care Products are specially formulated for optimum care and maintenance of RIB and Inflatable boats. They’re endorsed, recommended and used by the top boat manufacturers in the world. These products are safe to use on Hypalon, PVC, Polyurethane, Rubber, Fiberglass and Aluminum.
NOTE: Detailed instructions for use and application of all products are on the product labels and on www.AuroraMarine.com
This is the easiest and best time to protect your boat. Within a few months in the marine environment, an unprotected boat can become soiled, stained, fouled and begin to degrade, requiring restoration before it can be properly protected.
When the special fabric for your tube and inflatable floor was manufactured, lubricants and other chemicals were used and they remain on the surface of the fabric after the boat was manufactured. It’s important to strip them away before applying the UV protector otherwise poor adhesion and failure of the protector can result. Even though your boat is new and appears clean, scrub it well with SPEED CLEAN™ and a MARINE POWER MITT™ to remove these pollutants, rinse well and dry. When the tube and fabric floor is dry, apply 2 coats of POLY GUARD™. These products may also be used to protect rub rails and other rubber fitments.
If the boat is to remain in the water for more than 2 days at a time, apply REPELIN™ fouling release coating to all underwater fabric surfaces to reduce the attachment of marine fouling and make cleanup easier. REPELIN™ can also improve performance and reduce fuel consumption. These products are effective for use in salt as well as fresh water.
If your RIB is to remain in the water for more than 2 days at a time, protect the gel coat with REPELIN™ fouling release coating. In addition to reducing the attachment of marine fouling it will keep the bottom cleaner, eliminate salt attachment, improve performance and reduce fuel consumption. Gel coat is porous and REPELIN™ will seal the pores to prevent osmosis blisters.
New gel coat is coated with a mold release agent which can impair proper bonding of long lasting protective coatings. To ensure proper attachment of REPELIN™, the hull must be scrubbed with SPEED CLEAN™ and a MARINE POWER MITT™ to remove any pollutants, prior to application.
If your RIB is to remain in the water for more than 2 days at a time, protect the painted bottom with REPELIN™ fouling release coating. In addition to reducing the attachment of marine fouling it will keep the bottom cleaner, eliminate salt attachment, improve performance and reduce fuel consumption. Wash the surface first with INFLATABLE BOAT CLEANER™ to remove any pollutants and then apply 2 coats of REPELIN™. If the hull is raw aluminum, after washing as above, coat it first with ALUMETRON™ prior to applying REPELIN™.
The deck or floor surfaces of RIB’s either have a textured pattern or sand is imbedded in the gel coat, or paint, in order to provide traction and reduce slipping, especially when wet. Protecting them with wax or polish is not recommended as it can make them dangerously slippery. Left unprotected, the decks are susceptible to UV damage, soiling, staining and excessive scrubbing to keep them clean. SURE STEP™ is a pressure sensitive sealer and UV protective polish that utilizes Adaptive Reflex technology. It seals the surface, protects the New Boat shine and makes the decks easy to maintain and keep clean. When you step on the deck, your weight creates pressure which gives you grip. When you take your foot off, releasing the pressure, they become smooth and slippery again making dirt attachment difficult. When the decks are wet, the traction increases even more.
Scrub the non-skid deck with SPEED CLEAN™ and a scrub brush and the smooth parts with a MARINE POWER MITT™. Rinse well and dry. Apply 2 coats of SURE STEP™ and buff to a beautiful shine with a SURE STEP BUFFING WHEEL™ on a portable drill.
Once your boat is properly protected, maintenance usually consists of keeping it clean by rinsing with clear water and wiping dry from time to time but if stuff happens, we’ve got you covered. If your boat gets soiled from greasy atmospheric fall out, diesel soot, scum line, or other nasties, wet it with water, spray on some free rinsing, biodegradable INFLATABLE BOAT CLEANER™, wash away the grime with a MARINE POWER MITT™ and wipe dry with a chamois or microfiber cloth.
Scuff marks or other dirt or stains that are difficult to remove can be scrubbed clean with SPEED CLEAN™. Rinse well, dry and re-apply POLY GUARD™ and REPELIN™ if applicable.
Even though your boat bottom is protected with REPELIN™, if it sits in the water for more than a few days you may see slime forming on the bottom. Simply wipe off the slime and the bottom will stay clean for months. If the boat sits in the water for long periods of time, without maintenance, marine growth may attach. Soft growth such as slime and algae can be removed with INFLATABLE BOTTOM SPRAY™. Hard growth, such as barnacles or zebra or quagga mussels can be removed with FOUL OFF™. Bottom cleaners can remove REPELIN™ and POLY GUARD™. After removing the growth, scrub with SPEED CLEAN™ and re-apply POLY GUARD™ and REPELIN™.
POLY GUARD™, REPELIN™ and SURE STEP™ have a life of 6 to 8 months in continental climates and 3 to 4 months in tropical climates. At the end of each period, scrub all surfaces with SPEED CLEAN™ and re-apply the protectors. Regular use of these products can extend useful life of your new RIB or Inflatable Boat, make maintenance easier and add value and pride of ownership to your boat.
Repelin will work and will not harm your fiberglass, however it was invented primarily for use on Hypalon and PVC. VS721 Bottom Coat will work better since it was invented especially for fiberglass and aluminum. It has stronger bonding properties. It’s important to get your hull back to pristine before you use it.
Repelin will work and will not harm your finish, however VS721 Bottom Coat will work better on fiberglass boats. It’s important to get your hull back to pristine before you apply it.
In a simple answer, Yes! However, a better product for your sailboat is Aurora VS721 Bottom Wax with VS721. It is from the same family of products but it is designed to cross-link to the fiberglass more so than the Repelin.VS721 Bottom Wax is too aggressive for Inflatable fabrics. Repelin was designed especially for protecting Inflatables from marine growth, without damaging the fabrics and adhesives or effecting the patchability. It can also be used on fiberglass, aluminum and hard painted surfaces.
The main ingredient in Repelin is VS721. It’s a proprietary hydrophobic polymer that is more slippery than water. There are no toxins or biocides to kill marine life, instead this super slippery surface makes it difficult for marine growth to attach. Bacterial slime will attach to all surfaces, but keeping it wiped off, from time to time, will keep your boat bottom clean. It’s inert so it doesn’t sough off into the water, making it environment safe.
Other bonuses for using Repelin is that it will seal the pores in fiberglass bottoms on RIB’s against osmosis blisters, the reduced friction on the hull will give your boat better performance and speed and reduce fuel consumption. It’s perfectly clear so it doesn’t change the appearance of your boat.
For guaranteed results, be sure to use Speed Clean and Poly Guard to properly prep the surfaces before applying Repelin.
We can not guarantee that Repelin will work with other manufacturer’s products as we do not test our products with theirs. All Aurora products are system matched and are guaranteed to work with each other. Most major inflatable boat manufacturers now recommend Aurora products. They are proven to provide superior protection without any damage to the material or construction of their boats.

One bottle of Speed Clean, Poly Guard and Repelin should be sufficient for your boat, unless it’s in bad shape, then you will need more.
Repelin has a minimum quantity of UV, sufficient to protect the coating but not the substrate. Poly Guard, which is applied to the tube and to soft bottoms does provide adequate UV protection. Repelin should be applied over Poly Guard, so it will give you the protection against UV on the tube. If your boat is a RIB, the Repelin is applied directly to the fiberglass or painted aluminum hull. It will seal the pores and protect against Osmosis but will not give you much protection against UV.
Repelin is an expensive product to produce and because most RIB owners either leave their boats in the water or keep them on davits, with minimum exposure of the fiberglass to direct UV, it was decided to minimize the UV protection in order to keep the price down.
Because of your question, we realize that other boaters may use their inflatables in a similar manner. We have had discussions with our technical department and they will be examining the feasibility and cost of increasing the UV protection.
Yes. If you apply Repelin directly to the Hypalon tube, it will bond to the tube and if ever you need to make a patch or glue on a fixture, it will be very difficult to remove the Repelin and your patch may not be satisfactory. Poly Guard can be completely removed so if you put it on first and then the Repelin, you can remove both if you need to. Repelin also provides extra UV protection to reduce oxidation and chalking which is common with Hypalon boats.
Repelin will not break down Hypalon but will bond aggressively which can impair patchability. Poly Guard acts as a base that can be completely stripped.
For guaranteed results I also recommend that you clean and remove all stains, oxidation and release chemicals used in manufacture from the Hypalon fabric with Speed Clean before applying the Poly Guard. The results will be worth the effort
Nothing lasts forever. Repelin needs to be re-applied every year, twice in the tropics.
Poly Guard protects the tubes from UV, oils, dirt, grime, etc. It is also required as a primer or base coat for the Repelin on the tubes. If you put the Repelin directly on the tubes, it will cross link to the fabric and will be difficult to remove if ever you need to do a repair or patch. By putting it over the Poly Guard on the tube, it can be completely stripped if necessary.
All surfaces need to be cleaned and stripped with Speed Clean prior to application of Poly Guard and Repelin, even brand new boats. This insures that the surface is free of all dirt, oils, release agents, oxidized material and other pollutants that could impair the application and bonding of Poly Guard. When you clean your boat prior to the next application, you will strip the Repelin and Poly Guard so that new material can be applied to your boat and not to the oxidized and spent protectors.
Layering new polishes or protectors over old is false economy. The new is protecting the old, not the boat. It will break down faster and delaminate from the boat, leaving it completely unprotected. Think of using expensive paint to paint over dirty, greasy, peeling wall paper on a wall. You’re better off to strip the old paper and applying a primer before painting the wall. The wall will look better, be better protected and the paint job will last much longer.
Thanks for your confidence in Aurora Boat Care Products. We know that Coast Guard boats take much more abuse than civilian craft so it’s good to hear that our products are up to the challenge. We never get tired of hearing how well our products work on our customers boats.
Poly Guard and Repelin can be stripped with Speed Clean if ever you need to make a repair to your boat. Use a Marine Power Mitt with the Speed Clean to reduce labor.
We also recommend that you strip the entire boat once a year to prevent build up and remove any deteriorated material. Then re-apply a fresh coat of Poly Guard and Repelin. This insures that the surface of your boat has maximum protection. Scheduled annual maintenance will keep your boat looking new and significantly reduce regular maintenance. It can double your boats effective life and a clean shiny boat shows your pride.
If your boat is a RIB, use Sure Step on the deck to protect it from UV, dirt, stains and water penetration plus add a degree of safety as it will reduce slipping, even when the decks are wet. This will also eliminate the need for constant scrubbing to keep your boat ship shape.

Amazing Product
Your Aurora Repelin is amazing! The worst time for Barnacle growth around here is May to June. One of my customers used it on his RIB in Nanaimo. He leaves it in the Ocean in a covered slip, and got no growth at all.

Satisfied with product and speed we had!
The soft bottomed inflatable went from a top speed of 20 mph to 23 mph, on the hand held GPS. It also got on plane much quicker after we put the Aurora Repelin on.
